Sir R. Strachan, whose zeal and enterprise are always conspicuous having discovered 47 gun boats moored in the inner road of Havre, from Cape la Heve round the Pier-head, and then half way across the river Seine towards Honfleur, on Sunday attacked them. A smart fire ensued, in which some of the enemy's vessels were sunk, and from the great confusion they betrayed, they are supposed to have lost a considerable number of men. The Diamond was struck eight or ten times, but she had not a man hurt. One shot under water has given employment to the handpumps. The Arethusa received one shot; but the Ripley schooner had her commander, Lieutenant Bond, an officer of excellent abilities wounded in the thigh, a seaman wounded in three places, and another killed, all in consequence of a shot from one of the enemy's boats having struck a carronade, and split it into many pieces. She is returned to Portsmouth to land her wounded,--and shift her foremast, which was sprung in the chase.
