CINCINNATI. Oct. 12.-(P)-- The United Mine Workers' convention today approved a 10-point program for improving the present contract, including a shorter work week, higher pay, and bettering the welfare and retirement fund.
The program was submitted to the meeting by the Scale Committee. It would set up a policy group composed of committeemen representing the various districts of the union to translate the 10 general objectives into specific demands next spring.
The convention, as one of its last acts, unanimously adopted a resolution for unity of the labor movement and urging its officers—meaning Lewis particularly—to try to bring it about.
