They write from Constantinople, that the Lieutenant Aga of the Janizaries had summoned all the Elders and Chiefs of that Body, opened to them the critical Situation of the Army, and declared to them, in the Name of the Grand Sultan, the Mufti, and the whole High Divan, the great Necessity there was for raising a fresh Army, without the least Delay, or any farther Consideration about it; so that they must issue immediate Orders for raising 60,000 Janizaries before the Expiration of the Ramadan, in Defence of the Name of Musulman, and the Mahometan Religion, which was never more likely to receive a greater Check from the Christians than at present.
