There is a current rumour from Washington, that the President had prepared a veto message to the ' land bill,' in which he had based his objections on the features of the bill which were stricken out by the House of Representatives! Thus foiled he was compelled to seek new objections as a pretence for defeating the objects of the bill. His hostility undoubtedly had rise in the circumstance that this, with the other most important measure of the late session, originated with his late opponent, Mr Clay.
