Full Text

Sixty-five persons of colour arrived at this place last week. from Virginia—fifty two of whom were liberated from slavery by the will of their late owner, a Mr. Crenshaw, of that state, and the remaining thirteen were emancipated by their present conductor. The laws of Virginia prohibiting them from remaining within the limits of the "Ancient Dominion," they have come to Pennsylvania to seek for employment. As we have not had leisure to pay our respects to their smiling countenances, we can say nothing of their appearance or expectations. On their arrival, they unceremoniously took lodgings on the "Commons" adjoining the town, where they remained cheerfully, without shelter of any kind, exposed to the sun, winds and repeated showers. But such exposure is to their condition nothing novel—habit has taught them to bear with apathy the "peltings of the pitiless storm."
