Besides the accounts given in this paper, of the depredations committed by the savages on the frontier settlements, the papers from the southward abound with intelligence of other cruelties perpetrated by those barbarians; and all accounts agree that they are sharpening up their tomahawks and scalping knives—for a bloody predatory war this summer; but from the large bodies of active troops which are now on their march to quell them, we have reason to expect that before autumn they will receive the chastising rod of the thirteen fires. A letter received at Pittsburgh, the 15th of May, from fort Franklin, mentions, that an Indian had arrived there, who brought information that 300 warriors of the Chippawa and other nations had set out for war, and they had determined to strike on the Allegheny or Ohio, near Pittsburgh; that 1000 more were preparing, but their destination was not known. By the last Pittsburgh papers we learn that four companies of the new raised troops, had arrived at that place, and considerable numbers were hourly expected. A number of gentlemen at Pittsburgh, have offered one hundred dollars for every hostile Indian's scalp, with both ears to it, taken within a stipulated term of time, by any inhabitant of Allegheny county.
