Blaine and Logan Club Meeting Saturday Night.
The Blaine and Logan club held their weekly meeting on Saturday evening at the Pavilion opposite the postoffice, Mr. L. C. Grothaus in the chair. After the meeting had been called to order the Glee club gave a selection, after which Mr. Grothaus introduced Mr. Sam Johnson as the first speaker. Mr. Johnson made a long and elaborate speech and was frequently interrupted by applause. At the conclusion of Mr. Johnson's address the Glee club rendered another selection and then the President informed the meeting that Mr. J. P. Newcomb would deliver an address. Mr. Newcomb's address was received with great favor, he minutely showing the glaring defects of Democratic principles, and citing excerpts from Blaine's letter of acceptance for the purpose of contrast. Mr. Newcomb's speech finished the Glee club again gave another selection from their repertoire. Mr. Clifford, who was the next speaker on the programme, was unable to attend the meeting, owing to the illness of his wife. In lieu thereof, Judge Jack Evans filled the vacancy, handling his political opponents without gloves in his well known and incisive manner. Laughter was continuous, as each happy phrase or anecdote made its point. Applause loud and prolonged filled the hall after the speaker had brought his speech to an end, and the meeting then adjourned after another song by the Glee club.
