TIJUANA, Lower Cal., Jan. 25. (UP)—Tension increased here today as former employes of the $10,000,000 Agua Caliente hotel reportedly were denied both of their major demands.
Spokesmen for the workers said the Tijuana labor conciliation board had ruled against a claim for back wages from the hotel company and that President Lazaro Cardenas had ordered the CROM members to abide by the federal expropriation decree converting the resort into a governmental aviation and industrial school.
Claim for wages was based on a Mexican law guaranteeing workers three month's salary when an employer suspends operations, without cause. The board held the hotel had opened on a trial basis only last summer and the contract with the workers covered only the trial period.
Carlos Ibarra, chairman of the board, pointed out the hotel had fulfilled all its obligations.
The Cardenas order was in reply to a proposal of CROM leaders that the hotel dining room and bars be operated on a co-operative basis with employes sharing the profits.
Under that proposal only a portion of the hotel property would have been used for a school.
