What appeared to have been Atlanta's most sadistic crime for many years was believed to have been perpetrated Tuesday night when nine-year-old Dollie Mae Ross, of 263 Old Wheat Street, N.E., Apt. 1, was criminally attacked and murdered, according to police.

The second grade Yonge Street school pupil, reportedly missing from her home since approximately 9 o'clock Tuesday night, was found under the residence of 316 Jackson place, N.E., Saturday afternoon by a group of youngsters playing around the yard.

The young girl's mother, Mrs. Ruby Ross, said the last she saw her daughter alive was Tuesday night when she sent her out to look for her older sister, Marguerite.

Investigating Detectives W. M. Holland and J. E. Helms reported that medical examination of the body disclosed that the young girl had been ravished, her neck broken and a large, gouging stab wound had been inflicted in the stomach region.

They urged full public support in

rounding up the murderer and bringing him to justice.

The detectives surmised that the girl had been ravished and murdered elsewhere and her body dragged and secreted at the 316 Jackson place residence.

Henry McNair, of 421 Auburn Ave., reportedly stated that on Tuesday night he heard his dogs barking and, turning on his lights, he went to his back yard to investigate. The detectives said he told them he saw a man dragging a young girl by the neck in the direction where her lifeless body was found. He failed to question the man, detectives quoted him as saying, and stated that he recognized neither of the persons.

Mrs. Gracie Freeman, of 30 Climax place, located just back of where the body was found, was said to have told officers she, too heard the dogs barking on Tuesday night and saw a man come from under a floor of a nearby dwelling with a young girl in his grasp. She reportedly added that the man carried her in the direction of Jackson place.

The deceased girl's aunt, Mrs. Sara Sims, of 20 Climax place, was said to have told officers Dollie Mae came by her house shortly after 9 o'clock Tuesday night seeking the whereabouts of her sister. This was the last she saw of her.

The shoes of the victim were found under the floor of the dwelling where witnesses said they saw the couple emerge.

It was theorized that perhaps the body would have been discovered earlier had it not been for inclement weather during the week.

The body was said to have been first discovered by eight-year-old Geneva Lawson, of the 316 Jackson place address.

Geneva said she ran to her grandmother, Mrs. Mary Spears, and told her "Dollie Mae was under the house dead." (The grandmother explained that the two girls knew each other from having attended the same school.)

Late Saturday the mother conceded to have an autopsy performed on the body to determine which injury caused the death of her young daughter.

The distressed and bereaved mother related that the child's father is dead. She said that other than herself, Dollie Mae is survived by her sister, Marguerite, and a brother, Henry Ross, of New York City.

In interviewing the neighbors of Jackson place, an air of dejection was noted as they told what they knew of the barbarous crime.

Police made a personal request to the public to confide in them what information they might know or learn concerning the crime.

Ga. The children present were:
Mrs. Agnes Thornton. Iola Welch, Lois Fambro, Mr. James W. Davenport and granddaughter, Theresa Arletta Fambro, all of Chicago.
