Full Text

Boston, October 12. Last Tuesday Evening arriv'd here Capt. Cowley, in a Ship from Antigua, who had about a Month's Passage, by whom we are informed, That the Small Pox, and a Fever which had prov'd very mortal, were both entirely ceas'd in that Island: That in the Month of July they had such excessive Rains, as that their Crops were greatly damnag'd thereby; so that few Vessels were like to get Freights. That on or about the 8th of August past, they had a very severe Storm or Hurricane, which had done considerable Damage among the Shipping, and that particularly a Ship belonging to Piscataqua, Capt. Papoone, Commander, being full freighted with 400 Hogsheads of Sugar, and just ready to sail, was drove ashore from her Anchors and stove in Pieces, and all her Cargo, except about 50 Hogsheads, lost. That after the Storm was over, they were informed by some Vessels which arrived there, That several Wrecks both of Ships and Sloops were seen floating upon the Seas; and 'twas feared that vast Damage was done by the Same Storm in most of the Leeward Islands, especially those to the Northward of Antigua, where it seemed to be most violent.
