Full Text
"Mr. Poindexter, some time last summer, wrote a letter to Mr. Clay, of a confidential character, which Mr. Clay returned to him-at his own request for any thing we know of. By some unfair means this letter was abstracted from the papers of Mr. Poindexter, by some mischief maker unknown, and sent to the President. Mr. Tyler, supposing the letter belonged to Mr. Clay, very properly enclosed it to that gentleman, by whom it was again enclosed to the writer. Mr. Poindexter. The way in which Mr. Curtis's name came to be coupled with the transaction, was from a most unjust suspicion on the part of Mr. Poindexter, that Mr. C. had had some agency in the matter of bringing the letter before the President."
