ROAD TO RECOVERY
The four men who were severely burned in an explosion at Frontier mine No. 1 on December 18 are still in the L. C. M. hospital, and all doing as well as could possibly be expected, considering the nature of their injuries, which were extremely painful, and from which complete recovery is necessarily slow.
It transpires as the days pass that Jack Groutage was in reality the most badly burned, although it was the opinion at the time that Joseph Wainwright had suffered the worst from the explosion.
Groutage's heroism in the face of disaster is responsible for his condition, for it will be recalled that he carried Wainwright, who was rendered unconscious and also blinded, by the blast, to a place of safety, and while doing so his clothing became ignited, causing deep and painful burns about the arms and face.
