RICHMOND:
TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 27.
For the VIRGINIA ARGUS.

To the Press of Hanover County, above the following Story is humbly addressed.

THERE was a Fountain once, whose stream was so disturbed Because it could not carry the gold over which it murmured, and which belonged of right, in common to a neighbourhood; that it entered into an alliance with a distant torrent, to overrule and destroy the peace and comfort of this little republic.--This Fountain was a giant current, and would on occasion in an instant change direction : in one moment it would be rolling due east; the next, due west: in one moment, it would throw ice cold nourishing draughts to the aid of a favorite ; the next, a scalding potion.
him to parched in the scorching sun, and steal away to do homage to the torrent.--Some supposed the Fountain expected the torrent would pay it an additional stream, for taking its part against its own soil ; and this is the opinion subscribed to generally : because many Fountains that had dared the same conduct, had been increased from the insignificance of a petty spring, to the currency of a rivulet.

At one time no Price could be found for the torrent, but it was while the value was unknown ; as soon as it was proclaimed that it enriched all those who ran the same course. the Fountain forsook its rural banks; its wonted versatility was concealed,--it frequented populous cities ; and a Price was to be found.

Oh! Ye people of the Fountain, seek purer stream, and you who seek for real value, abandon a nominal Price !
A HERMIT.
