"We have obtained complete possession of all the departments of the city. We have elected a Whig mayor, and all the other candidates on the regular nominated ticket for city officers; and, also, a majority in both branches of the council. Our opponents left nothing untried to defeat us, as their falsehoods before, and their exertions on the day of election fully establish.
To our friends all over the State, we send this greeting: We have met the Van Burenites in a fair fight and a manly contest; we have beaten them. Another and an equally important election approaches—in that you will be called to participate—all that we ask of you is to imitate our example, and to perform your duty as faithfully and efficiently as we have performed ours. So doing, all will be well, and the State will be redeemed from all the deformity of Locofocoism."
