TOWN MEETING.
Yesterday in conformity to the direction of the Constitution of the State, the citizens throughout the Commonwealth assembled to give their suffrages for meet and suitable persons to serve them as Governor, Lieutenant Governor and Senators. In this town two lists were offered. One was formed at Concert Hall, where the supporters of government generally assemble previous to an election. The other was made by the correspondents of, and promulgated through the Chronicle, the organ of the opposers of our Federal Administration. In some Candidates both sides agreed, they were therefore chosen with unanimity— The new candidates properly exhibit the strength of the opponents.
In same case the votes the Chronicle inserted, from motives of policy, the present Governor, and inserted among their Senators, some Federal characters, for the same reason, but all their exertions, all their ingenuity, could not prevent the success of the list, which the Federalists had agreed to support.
There is no doubt that the present Chief Magistrate and the respectable second Magistrate will be re-chosen to fill the same situations, by a very considerable majority.
