HONOURABLE CONCESSION
We copy with much pleasure the following extract from an article which appeared in the late Boston Patriot, a paper which has hitherto been undeviatingly devoted to the support of the present administration:
"God and nature have abundantly given us the means of triumphing over every difficulty. We have but to use them with vigour and our soil will not be polluted by an invading foe. The sacrifice will be small, the happiness so and the glory great. Will Americans suffer their towns and their navy, (the pride of our country) to be destroyed before their eyes, and not make one effort to save them? Forbid it, Heaven: forbid it, patriotism?"
"The great body of Americans of all parties appear willing to join in this glorious task, but party spirit prevents. How shall this impediment be removed! A small concession from each party and it is done. Who shall set the example! The President of the United States.
A part of the present cabinet (particularly the head of the War Department) are believed by all parties to be totally unqualified to discharge with propriety the duties of their Let them be removed; let men be appointed to fill their places, whose influence and lents, without distinction of party, command the most respect, both at home and abroad."
