The Martial Strains of Music From the Seventh's Regiment's Band Bring Gen.
Grant to the Window.
NEW YORK, May 30.
At 9 o'clock this morning the Seventh Regiment moved from its armory at 66th street and Park street, westward through 66th street toward Fifth avenue. As soon as the band had passed Madison avenue and entered the block in which Gen. Grant's house is they began to play stirring march music. The shades at the General's bow window were at the time closely drawn, but at almost the first sound of the music the shade on the Madison avenue side was raised by the General himself. With his dressing gown about him and his skull cap drawn on his head, he stood unsupported by his cane while the regiment passed. Mrs. Grant was at the front window. After the affecting scenes, when the General had reviewed some of his old companions in arms, he felt very much depressed, but the advent of some of his old friends and the presence of Dr. Douglass soon cheered him up again. He suffered a little less from his throat but is still very weak. The family were very grateful for the attentions paid the General.
NEW YORK, May 31.
Gen. Grant passed a fairly comfortable night, although the members of the family feared the excitement of Decoration Day would interfere with his rest. At 2 o'clock, Drs. Douglas, Sands and Shrady held the usual Sunday consultation, but found no changes of importance in the patient's condition.
