How To Sell Your Home

No other merchandise is subjected to such critical inspection as a house. It must look attractive to sell. Here are some ways to make your house saleable, according to the editors of Changing Times, the Kiplinger Magazine.

See that every part of the structure is sound and that all mechanical equipment works. Even a sticking drawer bespeaks poor upkeep and suggests hidden faults. Up-to-date kitchens and bathrooms count most. Experts say you get back money spent improving these rooms.

Brighten up with new paint and paper, even if the buyer redecorates everything the day he moves in. Also weed the flower beds, prune the shrubs and patch the lawn, especially in front. Luring prospects out of their cars is half the battle.
Get rid of trash and clutter, straighten up the closets so that they look spacious. Borrow furniture, if necessary, to dress up underfurnished rooms. And when prospects are coming, see that every room is picked up, and turn on some lights to give the place a homey, comfortable look.

Fixing up costs money, of course. But spending on essentials pays.
