We have a French list for '98, in which the Voluntaire is rated as 50 gun ship She is a very large vessel, and mounted 58 guns in the late action.
Capt Shaw. who was on board of the Constellation after the engagement, saw a twenty-four pound shot which had lighted on her deck; from which it is presumed that the enemy was superior in metal.
The Constellation had parted from the Insurgente but 10 hours previous to her falling in with the Frenchman.
We are happy to state, that the only personal injury sustained by Com. Truxton, during the action, was being a little bruised by a quad of rigging falling on him.
