Full Text

Aug. 2. We have the following melancholy Account from the Westward, viz. That 3 of our Carpenters being at Work in the Woods near Lake George, within Half a Mile of one of the Forts, and under a Guard of a Captain and 6 Men, and the Captain discovering Indians in the Bushes hard by, ran away with his Men, and called to the Carpenters to make the best of their Way, for that there were Indians; but the Guard being gone, the Indians attacked the poor Carpenters, and killed eight of them: The other five made Shift to recover the Fort. Tis said the Indians were about 30 in Number, and that the Captain is broke for his ill Behaviour. If this turns out to be true, the Publisher has a wooden Sword of curious Workmanship for the Captain's Service.
