New England Charities.—The city of New York—to whom Louisiana will ever feel the kindest sympathy, has up to this time contributed to the relief of suffering humanity in New Orleans, the sum of $32,552. Other cities South of the Great London of America, have opened their purse strings—and in one voice said, "If money will help relieve the distress of our sister city in the South, let her not want."

But there is a mighty city in the north—great to make parades of sympathy and who would fain lead the literature and the law, and the gospel by its own light.—A city that appropriates to itself the title of the "Athens of America."—A city that stands isolated and alone, in sight of the stones of Plymouth has no sympathy to send so far away from home. She lives to herself—feels for herself—has large bowels of compassion for suffering humanity—and strong lungs for the cause of fanatical transcendentalism; but never has she a word to say when her sisters, and second cousins are in distress. Look at the following appeal from the Boston Transcript of the 23d ulto.
