Registration for civilian defense in Ypsilanti is becoming a part of the program of several organizations.
American Legion Post 282 members are registering at the Legion Home from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 today to determine the types of work their members can do if they are called upon to aid in Ypsilanti's civilian defense program. Registration and classification will be conducted Tuesday and if not completed then will again be operated Friday and Saturday at the same hours. Carl Tunnicliffe is in charge.
Preparations for the new civilian defense registration in January will be made at Ypsilanti Council of Defense meeting Friday noon in Hotel Huron.
Classification of applicants for police and fire auxiliaries, 75 of whom registered last week, will be begun this week by Police Chief Dan E. L. Patch and Fire Chief James Dignan.
Applications already received will be sorted according to the information contained and new applications will be classified as they are received. Fingerprinting of men selected for service in the auxiliaries, Chief Patch said, will be begun after Christmas. Classes in first aid will begin after Jan. 5.
Registration of applicants is continuing this week at the Michigan State Employment Office, Pearl St., during the hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, except Christmas Day.
