Earl H. Jackson, 36, Negro, was sentenced to Folsom penitentiary Saturday with recommendations that the term be for 50 years. He had waived all formalities in the lower courts, pleading guilty to a charge of rape.
The huge laborer was arrested in the Calipatria area after he brutally attacked the Mexican wife of a Hindu rancher. He admitted in court Saturday that he had beaten the woman with the handle of his knife and pounded her in the face with his fists.
He appeared at her home during the absence of her husband, dragged her from the house to a ditch bank, tore her clothes from her body and attacked her, according to his testimony and that of his victim.
Recommendations for the 50-year term were made by Judge Vaughn N. Thompson and District Attorney Elmer Heald.
Jackson weighs 172 pounds and is five feet 10 inches in height. He said he had been working on ranches in the Calipatria area.
