The 2926 to 1071 landslide by which the AFL International Ladies Garment Workers won a union shop election in 94 Southern California sportswear shops has shocked the area.
"The election results have implication for the entire labor movement in Los Angeles," the ILGWU Pacific Coast office reports.
The answer of the workers in the sportswear election should give ample notice to the anti-labor forces that the workers are out of patience with those people who are trying to deprive them of the benefits they have struggled for so long to obtain."
Louis Levy, Pacific Coast director of the ILGWU, said the vast turnout of workers was the culmination of an intensive six week campaign in which the entire union staff worked around the clock to bring to all members an understanding of the issue involved.
