PETERSBURG, July 27.
COTTON MANUFACTURE.
Our advertising department to-day, announces another establishment within our town for the manufacture of Cotton, which has just gone into operation. The Appomattox Factory, the factory of the PETERSBURG COMPANY, with that of Mr. HEYWOOD which has an agency here, constitute, we may say three concerns now engaged extensively in this business in Petersburg. Yet the advantage of superior waterpower which we possess; the cheapness of the raw-material, grown in every direction around us, added to our commercial facilities. are considerations doubtless sufficiently strong to induce others to follow in the same track, should either the domestic or foreign demand for the manufactured articles prove such as to call for a further investment of capital.
Success to these, and to all similar undertakings. which, while they enrich those who engage in them and increase the wealth of the community. contribute much to the well-being of the laboring classes, by affording steady and reputable employment to many, who for the want of it, would lead a life of idle poverty.—Times.
