LOS ANGELES, July 17—Al La Barba, who retired as undefeated world's flyweight champion a year ago to enter Stanford University, will return to the professional ring tonight when he meets Hurria Evans in the ten round main event at the Olympic Auditorium.
In Evans, the former champion faces a youth who followed him through the Los Angeles Athletic club amateur ranks into professional ranks. About the time La Barba won the title, in his 14th professional appearance, Evans was striking his pace as an amateur.
Throughout his amateur days, Evans' work was featured by a long series of knockouts. His record shows he had more than 100 fights before turning to the pro ranks.
La Barba has signed for a ten round bout with Bud Taylor, the present flyweight title holder, here August 7. But final decision awaits the outcome of his bout tonight.
La Barba will weigh in at around 112 pounds while Evans will probably enter at 115, his usual weight.
Ben Kline, of Fresno, will meet Pete August in the six round semi-windup. Al Neff will face Joe Abramson and Joe Woods will face Tony Wriza in the other six rounders.
In the four round bouts Tex Miller will meet Is Kennedy and Lois Mavs will take on Tony Tovat.
