Between 1200 and 1500 refugees, including many of fortune and landed estates, are preparing to embark from New-York, Long Island, and Staten Island for Nova Scotia, St. John's, and Tobago, driven by conviction that the new republic will fail under national debt and high taxes rather than fear of mistreatment.

CHARLES THOMSON Sec'Y.
PHILADELPHIA, September 3.
The most authentic accounts agree, that there are yet between 1200 and 1500 refugees, men, women, and children, to be embarked at New-York, Long Island and Staten Island, for Nova Scotia, St. John's, and Tobago: among these are many persons of fortune and landed estates, who leave nothing but their terra firma behind them: Many of them pretend that it is not fear of ill treatment after the departure of the army, that urges them to leave the country, so much as conviction that the new republic must sink in a short time under their immense national debt, and the exorbitant taxes with which they will be loaded.
