Full Text

NEW YORK. November 9.

By letters from Turks-Island, we learn, that soon after Governor Symmer arrived there, a frame of government had been agreed on, whereby the Governor chose two Gentlemen as Counsellors or Assistants to him, and the People eight, as Representatives to them; who have lately agreed to lay such heavy Taxes on the rest of the Inhabitants, that many of the Settlers are determined to leave the Place. A Consequence the Letter-Writers justly observe, that will always follow where too many idle persons live in proportion to the labourers.
