State Liquor Monopoly

An effort made by Helding of Missoula and others to revert to the original system of control of the state's liquor monopoly to the Board of Examiners, officers elected by and responsible to the people, instead of having it operated and controlled by appointees responsible only to the governor, was defeated today (Thursday) by adoption of an adverse committee report. It had, for some unaccountable reason perhaps, been placed in the hands of the economy committee; this committee in its inscrutable wisdom having found that it was more economical to have an additional board than to have control of the business in the hands of elected officers, acting ex officio, without pay.
