Tune—Listen to the Band,
Farewell ye friends of Hard Cider,
We now will bid you adieu,
And spread your deception still wider,
In the election of Tippecanoe.
In the election, &c.
In the fall before the election,
You promised us times good and true,
If we would take your direction,
And vote for Tippecanoe.
You told us Van Buren was a tyrant,
And all his infernal crew,
That the whole country was ruined
And the people had nothing to do
You misrepresented Buchanan
And all his colleagues in view-
So now we will have to abandon
Such vile deceivers as you.
You said the Treasury was sinking,
And taxes of course must ensue,
Unless you succeeded in electing
The Hero of Tippecanoe.
You erected in town a log cabin,
And invited the rich and the poor,
And there you always kept hanging
The swing out style of the door.
You now can have your great parties,
Let none of the poor e'er attend-
You've forgotten the log cabin hearties
You deceived by calling them friends
Your pap laying was carried still onward.
To deceive the ambitious, 'tis true.
You promised to give them an office.
If they would vote for old Tippecanoe.
You promised us plenty of money,
And high wages for laboring, too-
You succeeded in deceiving so many
That you elected old Tippecanoe.
Thus came on the great extra session,
Your promises all coming due;
But like those of the banks of the nation,
They've broken, suspended or flew.
So now we renounce you forever.
And join with the democracy true,
That always have been the defenders
Of Mechanics and Laborers too.
