Cumberland, Sept. 26—The joint labor-management war bond drive that has been developed on a national scale in the rubber industry brought favorable response in the Kelly-Springfield plant, Raymond C. Burkhart, Local 26, URWA president said.
The war bond drive, aimed at making every worker in the plant a "10 per center," placing 10 per cent of the weekly pay check in war bonds, began in the Kelly plant two weeks ago under the direction of a committee from the union and company, Burkhart explained.
Ninety per cent of the workers in one department have signed up for a 10 per cent war bond deduction, while 50 per cent of another department have voluntarily placed 10 per cent of their pay in the hands of the government, he reported.
