A. H. Adams Meets With a Terrible Accident at Vanceburg in Getting Off a Freight Train.
A. H. Adams, aged twenty-three, son of the Rev. Mr. Adams, of Sandy Springs, O., met with a terrible accident Tuesday afternoon at Vanceburg. The unfortunate young man had come over to Concord on a visit, and concluded he would take a run up to Vanceburg. He boarded a C. and O. freight and the trip up was made all right, but in getting off the train he fell under the wheels and both of his legs were so badly mangled that they had to be amputated. The operation was performed by Dr. Owens, of this city, the company's local surgeon, assisted by Dr. Reed, also of this city, Dr. Grimes, of Concord, and Dr. Hill, of Vanceburg. The legs were amputated below the knees. The operation was a very successful one, and it is thought the unfortunate young man will recover. He is still at Vanceburg, where he is resting as well as could be expected after such a terrible experience.
