Full Text

March 3. A Man and his Wife are committed to Maldon Gaol, for threatening to kill their Neighbours for upbraiding them with Cruelty. It Seems, the Woman used frequently to stick Pins in a Child (to which she was Mother-in-Law) and stir up the Fire with its Feet, so that its Toes rotted off on which the Parish took it from her on the Neighbour's Complaint, and put it in the Workhouse, where it is since dead: But we don't hear that there are any Proceedings against her yet on this Score,--or More Murders and horrid Barbarities have been committed so within this last Twelvemonth, than during many preceding Years. This, as we have before observed, is principally to be attributed to the Declension of Religion among the common People.
