Full Text

Mr. Hill, in his last paper, says, that " the usual Convention to nominate a Governor was not holden the present year ; a large majority of the members believing that the public voice was not as yet fully made up on this question."

It requires no "optics keen" to perceive the object Mr. Hill intends to effect by that extraordinary declaration... Should the executive appointments conform exactly to his views, then he means to permit the present Governor to be re-elected..But the power has departed from the Patriot office. It is true no legislative Caucus was held at Concord the last session.. The friends of Gov. Woodbury, composing a very large majority of the General Court were resolved to hold a Caucus in order thereby to deprive the people of the fair and full expression of their voice. But had a Convention of the members been held, Gov. W. would undoubtedly have been elected as the candidate for Governor at the next election by a great majority.
