ARLINGTON, Tex., Nov. 24. (U.P.)—A negro murderer was guarded closely here today after the aged father of the man he killed had stilled the threats of an infuriated mob with a plea for mercy.
The mob gathered at the City Hall here after Sam Louder, a 300 pound negro, shot Evans Johnson, 22, a night watchman.
Rev. W. J. Johnson, Presbyterian minister and father of the young officer, pushed his way to the front of the crowd and climbed the steps of the city hall. With an uplifted hand, he quieted the throng.
"If any of you contemplate mob violence, I want you to know it was my boy who was killed," the white-haired father said.
"If anyone should wish revenge, it should be I. It is my desire that the law be allowed to take its course."
Although the possibility of mob violence was believed past today, officers were prepared to cope with a possible flareup of feeling against the negro.
Johnson was killed when he answered a call to quiet a negro fight early Sunday. Posses equipped with a machine gun and an airplane captured the negro several hours later.
