Cause for Stampede
According to a letter just received from former partners of George Kilroy, a new and substantial strike has been made in the Kobuk river region, a tributary of Hotham inlet, Kotzebue sound, north of Nome.
This letter was written late in May by Jack Lasamis, Andy Jarb in and John Tvunay from what they call Klery creek on the Kobuk river, where good prospects have been found from 6 ft to 9 ft, the finds ranging from three cents to $20 to the pan.
Klery or Cleary creek is 30 miles long with a lime and schist formation, and prospects are being found in other creeks in the same section.
At the time of writing they had just received the first prospecting boilers, and it was expected that much more could be ascertained with the belief general that the finds already made would result in a considerable stampede to the Kobuk this summer.
It is understood that hard rock men have renewed their efforts at the head of Flat, and rumor has it that they have found some rich quartz.
