support, the Commonwealth of Virginia, and the Constitution of the same-- and lastly, that I will peaceably resign the government to which I have been elected, at the several periods to which my continuance in the said office is or shall be limited by law, and the Constitution.

Sec. III.-The oath of a privy counsellor.

I, -- . swear--that I will be faithful to the commonwealth of Virginia, and will support, and defend the same, according to the Constitution thereof.--

By Sec. IV.-The Delegates, and Senators were not required to support the Constitution of Virginia. They were not at liberty not to do so, without the violation of any oath.

10 Vol. 22 The oath of the Governor, to support the Constitution is omitted- he, however, continues to swear that he will resign the government at the several periods to which his office " is or shall be limited by law. and the Constitution."

The oath of the privy councillor to support the Constitution, is revoked. Will any friend to the present constitution of Virginia, say,

1st. Whether these oaths to support the constitution, were passed by the same body of delegates and representatives of the several counties, and corporations of Virginia, as that which formed the Constitution of Virginia?

2d. Whether they were invested with the same authority, when they prescribed these oaths to support the constitution?

3d If so, by what authority were these safe-guards broken down?

4th. Whether, since the revocation of these oaths to support the constitution of Virginia, any officer of the State, or any Delegate or Senator, have ever taken an oath to support a constitution so much admired, and so much extolled?

5th. And lastly-Can any satisfactory reason be assigned by any friend of the present constitution, why the Governor & Council were sworn to support, that which the Delegates and Senators, were permitted not to support, without any violation of their oath?
