The CHICAGO Republican on the SUF-FRAGE QUESTION —The Chicago Republican employs the following significant language in a discussion of the suffrage question:
The policy of this people upon the suffrage question is not to be mistaken. We think the time has come when the white race may safely extend the ballot to the colored race, at least to those who are not in virtual bondage and subject to the will of their former owners, and to those who have borne arms in their country's cause. We think that any man who has risked his life on the battle-field in behalf of their country and to preserve its liberties, ought to have the privilege of the ballot.
