Full Text

Democratic Caucus.

The Democratic members of Council held a caucus last evening to consider the pending contest in the Fifth Ward, which is to be tried next Monday evening, and also to prepare to meet other expected contests, as it is likely that the seats of Messrs. Barnhill in the Ninth; Blake, of the Third, and McMenamin of the Eighth will be contested. The conclusion arrived at by the caucus seems to be that their only safety in the Evans case lies in filibustering, that is, adjourning the investigation from time to time until the contestant is tired out, and if this method is adopted it will be a plain confession on the part of the gentleman holding the contested seat and his party friends that Mr. Evans has made out a case so honest and evident that they cannot fairly meet it.
