Full Text

Ex-EMPRESS EUGENIE PROSTRATED.—The ex-Empress Eugenie is prostrated by the death of her son, the Prince Imperial, who was killed by the Zulus in South Africa, and remains in a semi-conscious condition. Humanity sympathizes with this mother in her heart-rending grief. All her aspirations for her boy's future greatness as the Emperor of France, (for, with a mother's tenacity, she cherished the hope that he would regain his father's throne) are now utterly crushed, and the once proud Empress of France will go down to her grave a childless and broken-hearted woman. Truly the ways of Providence are inscrutable, and the misfortunes of Eugenie afford an apt example of the mutability of human greatness.
