Extract of a letter from Charleston, March 13.

“The Theatre, with the exception of the scenery, was nearly destroyed last evening by the audience. You have seen in the papers a dispute between Mr. Caldwell and Mr. Hollman.... After the play began, the audience cried 'Caldwell or no play' When Mr. H. came forward, & declared Mr. C. should never play again on that stage. On this, he was pelted with oranges and hissed off the stage, when they broke the three chandeliers, and all the lamps in the body of the house, & bannisters, benches and windows."
