Full Text

Yesterday the brigade commanded by General Malcolm was inspected by the Adjutant General after the inspection, the brigade marched to the vacant grounds of Alderman Bayard, and was there reviewed by the Hon. Major General Baron de Steuben, who was so well pleased with its military appearance and behaviour, and particularly with the evolutions and manoeuvres, which were performed with great promptitude and exactness by the legionary troops under the command of Colonel Lewis, that after the review, he addressed the commanding officers of the different corps in the following words :

" Permit me, Gentlemen, to express to you the satisfaction with which I have observed the good order and truly military appearance of the corps under your command--Whilst the militia of New-York continue to be animated by the patriotic sentiments which have led you to these exertions, they will prove a perpetual nursery of good soldiers and virtuous citizens."

These expressions of approbation from one whose character as a soldier claims the first rank both in America and Europe, and who during the late war was esteemed the military parent of the American army, must inspire sentiments in the militia of New-York, which cannot fail to excite the utmost exertions in pursuit of military acquirements.
