The New Court House at Arlington
We called a special meeting,
To see what we could do
In regard to a new court house,
Bennington County needs one too.
Robert Blair, he made a motion
To build it of concrete.
And others made their motions
To build it on such streets.
I guess they had the plans drawn
And the foundation almost built.
But our county representatives
Weren't there to patch the quilt.
They said we'll wait a day more
For we really must be fair.
And we think they were sir
For the old house they'll repair.
Now Frank Nichols knew we would
get it.
And Deschenes took his advice.
And they started for Montpelier
And forgot to kiss their wives.
They were gone, it seemed like years
to us.
We watched for every train
And expected when they came back
Every thing would be plain.
At last they did arrive,
And we searched and searched in
vain.
But they didn't bring the courthouse
That is, not on that train.
That night we read the Banner
And there in plain view.
Was the county representatives
Will repair the old like new.
