Full Text

The San Francisco Post hints at a good deal of fact when it comments thus-wise upon the situation as brought on in California by the recent Republican State Convention:

"Without the ghost, what becomes of the play of 'Hamlet?' Without the railroad, what becomes of the Independent party, and who is to fee the Republican press? Hence the wrath of the Bulletin and Call over Stanford's declaration of his company's withdrawal from politics and hence the howls of the Republican organs who meet Fitch and Pickering on common ground. They are all equally interested in keeping the railroad in the fight, and are alike furious against Stanford for the stand he has taken. One crowd are mad as hornets at the idea of Stanford tightening his purse strings in a big campaign, and the other fears there will be no use for the Independents, now that Sargent and Gorham have stolen their thunder."
