Bluffton Firemen
Extinguish Blaze
In Wrecked Auto
Bluffton firemen were called by the state highway patrol at 6 p. m. last Thursday to extinguish a blazing automobile in a wheat field off of Route 696, five miles north of Beaverdam.
The auto driven by Harry C. McCullough, Route 1, Ottawa, had been southbound on 696 when, failing to negotiate a sharp S-curve on the road, it crashed off the road through a farm fence into the wheat field.
McCullough told police that the auto did not immediately catch fire, and that he had left it to hitch a ride to Ottawa where he summoned a wrecker. When he returned, he found the car in flames.
When Bluffton firemen were summoned, they were told that the auto was already a total loss, and not to take any unnecessary chances in hurrying to the scene. Arriving there, they extinguished the blaze.
