The beard judging, an annual event of the Anchorage Fur Rendezvous, will include a new category for eager beaver-growers this season. The Mt. McKinley Lions Auxiliary, sponsor of the annual beard contest, has announced that all businessmen in the Anchorage area can now compete in a category of their own, christened "Businessman's Brush."
To qualify as an entrant, each beard-grower is to register between January 2-10 at the Log Cabin on the City Hall lawn. At the time of registration, the contestant must be clean-shaven.
Winner will be chosen on the basis of the best all 'round beard grown from time of registration until judging, which takes place during the Miners and Trappers Ball February 20.
The year-round categories are still open to all other bearded contestants. Registration for these categories will be at the Miners and Trappers Ball. They are:
Polecat, mixed black and white;
Red Fox, red; Beaver, brown;
Black Bear, black; Toklat, blonde;
Gopher, longest; Porcupine, bushiest;
Ptarmigan, for the birds;
Wolf, suave; and Vanguard, out of this world. Mr. Fur Face of 1959 will be chosen from the winners of these categories.
