A letter to the Editor of the Baltimore Evening Post.

"The Africaine arrived off our harbor about 3 o'clock—Mr. Jackson, &c. on board. A long boat has been sent on shore with Mr. Jackson's steward and servant, to engage a vessel to carry his luggage to the city. A midshipman was left on the wharf to guard the sailors—as he walked to and fro, a couple of them seized a favorable opportunity, jumped ashore and made their escape, no one attempting to stop them. I saw on board the long boat, files of the FEDERAL REPUBLICAN and NORTH AMERICAN!

Annapolis, Sept. 4. 1809."
