Reporter—"What do you think of George and his movement?"
Offield—"I am glad he has done what he has. It will cause both parties to put out good men, and it will cause the government to remedy the great evils which now cause the rich to make such fabulous fortunes in so short a time, while the honest toilers are growing poorer day by day. Of course I don't like his theories, but I think his vote is a healthful indication. There is now too much corruption in New York city, and it must be stopped. The spoils system, in my mind, is greatly, if not solely, the cause of so much corruption. The rings have controlled the minor offices, and they are the ones which trouble the people. Mr. George has certainly awakened the masses of the people to this, and they will no longer support the rings unless honesty in some shape has something to do with the politics of the city."
