DEFEAT C. L. S. AT OUACHITA BY SCANT MARGIN.
The Alpha Kappa Literary Society was winner in the annual essay contest with the Corinnean society at Ouachita College in the first of the pre-commencement events held Saturday night. However, the combined score of the two Alpha Kappa contestants was only five-tenths of a point greater than that of the Corinnean pair. Miss Louise Searcy of Rison was individual winner, having scored a bit higher than the rest of the contestants. Her subject was "Reminders." All four essays were declared by the judges to be of a very high order. Paired with Miss Searcy for the Alpha Kappa was Miss Ielia Thomas of Little Rock, whose subject was "Silent Gossip."
Miss Sylvia Webb of Arkadelphia, with "Heir to All the Ages," and Miss Elizabeth Seale of Eudora, whose essay was entitled, "The Road," were the Corinnean representatives.
The thought and composition of the essays were judged by editors of the Atlantic Monthly and the judges on delivery were Mrs. R. I. Thomas and Mrs. W. S. Johnson of Arkadelphia and Miss Marjorie Turner, expression student in Henderson-Brown College of this city.
