A congressional subcommittee will conduct a three-day hearing in Seattle starting April 8 on transportation problems in the Pacific Northwest and Alaska.
The subcommittee will be headed by Congressman Dolliver of Iowa, and after the hearings a report will be submitted to the House Interstate and Foreign Commerce Committee.
The chairman of the full committee, Congressman Wolverton of New Jersey, was reported to have stated that in his opinion the interruptions in the free flow of commerce through the port of Seattle and vicinity have adversely affected interstate and foreign commerce, impairing the defense effort and indirectly causing great inconvenience and economic loss not only to the people of the Pacific Northwest, but also the people of Alaska.
He declared that his committee has received numerous complaints regarding the regulations and various commissions under the legislative jurisdiction of his committee affecting transportation in the Pacific Northwest and Alaska.
